So that we understand one another right from the beginning it will be helpful to define the idea of gardening in tubs, pots, boxes and baskets and then to set some limitations on our definition. To me this means growing plants of all types, from annuals and aquatics to trees and shrubs, in containers of all types, large and small, portable and static, with and without drainage facilities but in each case entirely separated from the soil, the original mother earth. The limitation I would set would be to keep these contained plants out of the home. I would also keep them out of the greenhouse.
