To the perceptive mind of Michel Navratil??? these truths
became apparent at an early age. He had been born in ~88o
in the little town of Szered??? about 4~ miles east of the city now
known as Bratislava??? in what became Czechoslovakia after the
dissolution of the Empire. His parents were of sturdy Slovak
stock and saw to it that he was educated for the niche in life
they expected him to fill. He was trained in the trade of a tailor
and quickly became self-supporting; but he soon began to
