内容简介

From Booklist Reviewed with Milton Meltzer's The Day the Sky Fell.Gr. 6-9. First published in 1985, Ain't Gonna Study War No More provides an authoritative and quite readable history of the peace movement and nonviolent resistance in America. As each generation seeks to understand and respond to the violence of its time, this historical perspective gains relevance for a new group of readers. The revisions to this title are relatively minor, but libraries without a copy on the shelf should consider it for purchase and some will want to replace old copies or add paperbacks to their collections. Originally published as The Terrorists in 1983, The Day the Sky Fell provides a history of international terrorism, from terrorist states to terrorist revolutions, from the IRA to the Ku Klux Klan. In the new foreword and five additional chapters, Meltzer offers reaction, reflection, and some background information on September 11.Each book includes some black-and-white illustrations, not always the same ones as in the original editions, but pictures similar to them in quality and effectiveness. Additions to both books include discussion guides for classroom use and Meltzer's answers to questions posed about the writing of each book. Though each bibliography includes some new additions, most of the titles are more than 20 years old. First published by Harper & Row, the books are now part of the Landmark Books series from Random House. Carolyn PhelanCopyright © American Library Association. Book Description The Story of America’s Peace SeekersWhile terrorists kill in pursuit of their goals, there are people whose goal is never to kill, no matter what the situation. Here, Milton Meltzer explores Americans’ long tradition of pacifism. From the Quakers of colonial times to the conscientious objectors of Vietnam, Americans have risked much to stand against violence in any and every form. First published in 1985, Ain’t Gonna Study War No More is now fully updated and revised by the author. See all Editorial Reviews
