黛芙拉．墨菲（Dervla Murphy）女士生於愛爾蘭的渥特福郡（County Waterford），雙親是都柏林人，自一九六四年起，作者便定期推出她在四大洲偏遠地區的遊記；她的旅行方式多半是騎自行車或徒步。
此外，墨菲女士的寫作題材也涵藝北愛爾蘭問題、核子工業的危害，以及英國的種族關係等等。目前仍住在渥特福郡。
