Well??? a couple of days later I dropped by his place??? and with
a smirk asked to see his garden.
I was absolutely amazed. He had a veritable farm in his flat.
Radishes??? lettuce??? beets??? carrots??? and more grew in splendid
profusion on five windowsills. Beans formed a giant curtain on
the outside of several windows. Herbs grew under lights set up
in various rooms. On the patio tomatoes hung in containers
under the eaves??? and corn and watermelon grew in half
whiskey-barrels on the deck. (There are people who d argue
emptying the barrel is more fun than filling it??? but anyway...)
\"How s this for a strawberry/\" my friend said??? plucking one
out of a pot. I popped it in my mouth. My friends??? I swear to
you??? I had just eaten the king of all strawberries.
After that I couldn t wait to get home and give it a try. First???
