内容简介

From School Library Journal Grade 1-5-- A collection of 32 small poems about small things found in, on, and around a pond--Daddy Longlegs, ladybirds, slugs, gnats, and such. Published posthumously, these light verses by the Danish-American poet are illustrated with lively black pen-and-ink drawings. Bodecker has a finely tuned feeling for form, and his whimsical reinvention of the tiny creatures he observes is sometimes charming, but his clever word play--such a vital part of the appeal of Let's Marry, Said the Cherry (Atheneum, 1974; o.p.) and A Person from Britain & Other Limericks (McElderry, 1980; o.p.) -- only occasionally brightens these selections. --Ann Stell, The Smithtown Library, NYCopyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Kirkus Reviews From a noted Danish-born poet (d. 1988), a last collection of neatly crafted verse--small poems about small things, mostly insects and the like. With brief lines, deft rhymes and wordplay, and a quizzical sense of humor, Bodecker shares his amused reactions to chance encounters: ``The little/beetle/they call/pill/needs/no vet/when he/is ill./ Whatever shape/you find/him/in,/he is/his own/best medicine.'' Or, to an exasperating fly, ``...Not on my nose,/you nut; not on my finger;/not on my bald spot, numbskull;/leave me be!/I didn't sit on you/when you were sitting./So why on earth should you/now sit on me?'' The 32 poems are perfectly complemented by Blegvad's delicate pen drawings, on almost every page. A pleasure. (Poetry. 6-12) -- Copyright ©1991, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.
